Hawthorne Valley Farm Store Gives Back
Harlemville, NY – July 13, 2015 – In keeping with its long-standing tradition of community giving, Hawthorne Valley Farm Store presented a check for $766 to the Friendly Kitchen of the Salvation Army in Hudson, NY. The donation was the collected contributions from customers at the Store’s Round Up for Charity drive during its Grand Reopening on June 28th, along with a matching $500 donation from the Farm Store.
In addition to annual cash contributions, Hawthorne Valley Farm Store regularly donates food to local food pantries. Since last September, Hawthorne Valley Farm Store has delivered over 2,000 pounds of certified organic bread, as well as hundreds of pounds of grocery, refrigerated, and bulk food products. The store also produced over 100 pounds of savory stuffing mix last Thanksgiving at the Friendly Kitchen’s request.
“Hawthorne Valley is committed to supporting food pantries and kitchens like The Friendly Kitchen,” Hawthorne Valley Farm Store Manager Dana Wagner said. “Everyone who works at Hawthorne Valley believes in the importance of supporting the community we live and work in. There are people in need everywhere, and it’s nice to be able to touch people in your own community, especially those who are struggling to feed their families.”
Located on 3rd Street, The Friendly Kitchen serves approximately 225 people a week at lunch and dinner, and provides meals twice a week at a local senior center. The food kitchen and pantry also distributes over 250 family-sized boxes of food at both Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Friendly Kitchen served more than 12,000 meals to local residents last year.
