Stewarding Life's Essentials, Nurturing Life's Potential

FEP Presentation at Lenox Garden Club

Native Species Habitats: An Inspiration for Gardeners and Land Managers

A presentation by Claudia Knab-Vispo, botanist with the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program

This slide presentation will lead you through some of the natural and agricultural habitats in Columbia County and introduce some of the native plants and animals with whom we share the land. Throughout the presentation, there will be specific management suggestions for land stewards how to maintain these habitats and their inhabitants. Gardeners are encouraged to let the natural habitats inspire their garden designs and to give some garden space to native plants. Through conscious habitat management and landscaping with natives, we hope to help ensure that many native species, plants as well as animals, continue to have a space in our landscape.
