Housekeeping Staff (part time)

Hawthorne Valley’s Campus Services team has several part-time positions in our Housekeeping Department available. The role of the housekeeping team is keep our facilities clean, neat, sanitary, and safe to support the educational and commercial activities on our campus. Hours vary but generally are 3, 4, or 5 hour shifts in the afternoon and/or early evening. Our active campus has housekeeping needs 7 days a week and applicant flexibility is a plus. These positions are task-oriented and include cleaning, helping to manage our recycling and waste stream, floor care and sanitation of our school, store, summer camps, residential units, and our food processing units.

Farm Learning Program

Farm Learning Positions refer to fixed-length opportunities in the realm of food production and food enterprise. This currently includes traditional vegetable and livestock learning positions. In the future, we will be offering structured learning opportunities in the bakery, creamery, and sauerkraut cellar. Faculty Chair

Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School, an Early Childhood-12th grade school is seeking a Faculty Chair beginning 2016-2017.

The general responsibilities of this position: The Faculty Chair holds a critical role for establishing and maintaining an effective environment for collaboration and communication between the pedagogical and administrative functions of the school. The Faculty Chairperson serves as the educational leader responsible for supervising the faculty in their teaching and non-teaching responsibilities and must have a thorough understanding of the pedagogy, policies, regulations, and procedures to assure a positive, supportive, and safe learning environment that meets the standards of Waldorf education and serves the particular mission of Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School. All faculty report to this position and the Faculty Chair is responsible for observation of faculty through classroom visits and individual work with teachers as well as ensuring that a consistent protocol of outside evaluations is maintained. The Faculty Chair also is responsible for ensuring that all parent concerns regarding curriculum and faculty are satisfactorily addressed. The Faculty Chair is an expert on the school’s curriculum and ensures that quality representation of Waldorf education to the parents is maintained. This position reports to the Faculty Chair Committee. This position entails a year round work schedule with occasional weekend and evening commitments.

Located in the historic Hudson River Valley, our school is ideally situated on a 700-acre biodynamic farm surrounded by beautiful views of the nearby Catskill and Berkshire Mountains.  Both natural beauty and cultural riches surround us, providing wonderful opportunities for our students, families and teachers. The school is 2.5 hours north of New York City.

The school is a branch of the Hawthorne Valley Association, which supports several Anthroposophical initiatives including a biodynamic farm, the Alkion Waldorf teacher-education program, Adonis Press, a place based learning program, and an organic store and bakery.  The local area abounds with additional initiatives including the Christian Community Church, and the Berkshire-Taconic Branch of the Anthroposophical Society. Our diverse student body includes the children of co-workers from four nearby Camphill communities as well as a number of international day and boarding students.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Our benefits plan includes medical and dental coverage, pension, and tuition remission.

Qualified applicants will have an undergraduate degree and preferably an advanced degree, Waldorf teacher training, and at minimum ten years of teaching and administrative experience in a Waldorf school setting.  Applicants must be dedicated to excellence in teaching, and be committed to developing strong working relationships with parents and colleagues.
